Gospel, jazz, soul and blues are the backgrounds of Joyce ElaineYuille. Starting her venture into the world as a runway model she eventually found her true path…The union between her soul, love of music and God given talent as a singer. Being born in New York City has definitely taught her the art of entertainment. Learning from the well-known theatres to the subway musical performance, a mixture of multi ethnicity that only a city like New York can offer, a melting pot that has assisted in her creativity and approach to life…. “Live and let live”, accepting everyone as they are and always striving to share a dream and vision.
Extremely influenced by diverse music styles, not to mention she was born and raised in El Barrio, Spanish Harlem, the neighborhood of the legendary “Mambo King”, Tito Puente, her admiration for singers such as Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone, Etta James, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald and all time 70’s generation favorite, Phyllis Hyman, have influenced her to create a personal style that is respectfully appreciated and admired by her audience. Nonetheless, her heart and soul are notable at her performances, her gift to touch the public profoundly, always leaving them with a lasting “special feeling” to take home.
Joyce is an alumni of one the most prestigious high schools in New York City, which was introduced to the world in the film “FAME”. It was during her attendance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of The Music and the Performing Arts, presently known today as Laguardia Arts where she began to focus on her music studies.
In later years, eventually relocating to Milan Italy during her fashion career, she united with two local musicians and the acid jazz trio 3*D was formed. The group recorded a cover version of Toto’s “Georgy Porgy” with the track being stylishly remixed by JP “Bluey” Maunick of Incognito fame and by Steve Lyon (Paul McCartney, Tears for Fears, The Cure). The album entitled “Deep Inside” on Sony/Tristar, reached commercial success with the “single” but the group unfortunately faced difficulties and was forced to retire.
Joyce continued on to work with many well-known International and Italian artists and performed as a backing singer with celebrated disco diva Gloria Gaynor with whom she had a six year stint in Europe. There have also been a few appearances on Italian television for RAI and Mediaset and her voice has been featured on a number of dance tunes, commercial and radio jingles from 1999 until 2005.
Nonetheless, Joyce’s smooth and more profound vocal talents are far more easily recognized and appreciated within the area of jazz which is her primary genre and also with blues and soul, where she has demonstrated her get down “nitty-gritty” style.
Her journey continues… She more than often performs at numerous jazz and blues festivals in Italy and across Europe, in addition to performing on the stages of well known jazz clubs and prestigious venues
Her vocal style, sultry wittiness and on stage energy is sure to capture the attention of everyone. An intense charisma that gently touches and falls deep into the hearts of all who listen.
